Worthy Watchdogs

These 'Ghosts' free range on a homestead in our area.
Guinea fowl are valued as one of the best exterminators of pest insects, making them a compliment to a backyard garden.
 Pest Control
Entertainment

Growing up they would come from the neighboring farm
and station themselves under our spruce trees
and start 'talking'.

My little brother was afraid of them and called them  'ghosts'.

Gotcha!

This culprit has been taunting and alluding me for weeks
Friday as I was taking water shots,
I heard the usual '1' croak and then silence.
It's been hopeless, so I continued concentrating on the waterfall.
Then as I made my way around the garden pond . . . there he was.
Spying on me through the leaves all along.

A Care-Free Summer Bloomer

A Care-Free Summer Bloomer - Perennial

 Balloon Flowers
The balloon flower, Platycodon grandiflorus, name comes from the resemblance of its buds to a hot air balloon. Before its buds unfold and reveal their starry petals, they inflate into little balloon-like balls

Noting Nature 070615

Hail, hail the gang's all here.
Butterflies aren't the only ones attracted to milkweed.

 Honey bees

Japanese Beetle and Housefly

The beetle is probably more interested in the leaf
and the fly, well just sunning  itself.

Mosaic Barns 070615

Four more barns
snapped while out looking for fences last week

The vertical construction of the silo caught my eye on this one.
I just noticed the lettering on the barn.
At one time it said 'Ruby Twin Lakes' with a hex sign at each end
But I don't think that is what I am seeing here.

Without some attention to this barn,
the silo will be joining my collection of solo siloes.

Wonder how many seasons it took
for the ivy to cover this one.
