Our neighbor, Kane
About a year ago our neighbors told us they were awaiting the birth of their new dog. Mrs. Neighbor said that it was an aggressive breed and she was concerned about the relationship with all our other neighborhood dogs. So far, no worries.
He came into a loving family with two other dogs plus our Lucy (at the time) and two more family dogs of another neighbor. We have all worked to welcome him and build a good relationship with him.
Did I mention he has about quadrupled his size as a pup?
Mr. Neighbor has done an excellent job of training; both behavior and hunting.
And to no one's surprise he and the RG have developed a touching friendship. Especially since our loss of Lucy. Now when Kane comes out to fetch his ball, he does so and then immediately looks our way to see if the RG is 'out to play' too.
The Deutsch Drahthaar is very active and intelligent. Eager to learn and loyal to its family, it needs a handler who is consistent in approach. The Drahthaar likes to be occupied and enjoys working for its owner. It is friendly with those it knows, but can be distant with strangers and should be socialized, preferably at an early age. If it senses its owner is meek or passive it will become rather willful. Its hunting instincts lure it to roam. Powerful and energetic, the Drahthaar can become bored and hard to manage without enough exercise. The Deutsch Drahthaar is a good all-around gundogable to hunt any sort of game on any sort of terrain. This dog has a good nose and can track, point and retrieve on both land and water. It is steady, lively and vigorous. Children should be taught how to display proper leadership skills. If this dog does not see humans as above it in the pecking order it will become dominating and pushy and may try to dominate other animals. With proper leadership it will get along well with other dogs and household animals. Drahthaars make good watchdogs.

he is a beauty and it appears all of his family, friends and neighbors have raised him the right way....this is my first time seeing or hearing of this type of dog. Kane is a charmer in his photos.

ReplyDeleteWe are friends with our neighbors dogs, luckily we have a friendly nice dogs. I have never heard of this dog breed. Kane is a beautiful dog. I still miss my Goldie Girl. What an interesting breed and WOW...it did get BIG! I don't have a dog here because the lawns are not fenced so dogs can't get out and romp unless you take them to the dog park. I think a dog needs plenty of time to run and play. Nice photos!
ReplyDeleteHe's a beautiful dog and what a cute puppy he as. It would be nice if Gibbs had neighbor dogs to associate with but no such luck. He's actually quite afraid of other dogs although you wouldn't know it to hear him bark at any that walk down the street.
