Arachnid Warning . . .

Looks like an alien descending

Can someone identify it?

The RG says it stays
because it's eating bugs.

He may be surprised
how soon it  moves along.

Our 11yr old grandson commented on Instagram
"that's disgusting"

This Time of Year the Growing Season . . .

produces fruit in Western P A.

Today I am thankful for
the beauty of the fruits;
both on the trees and the spirit
of family, friends & acquaintances

The Allegheny Mountains . . .

seen here in central Pennsylvania

Allegheny Mountains, also called Alleghenies, mountainous eastern part of the Allegheny Plateau in the Appalachian Mountains, U.S. The Allegheny range extends south-southwestward for more than 500 miles (800 km) from north-central Pennsylvania to southwestern Virginia.

It's Been A Long Week But . . .

Life is Still Good.

A welcome alternative
from time to time.

We know we're getting close to home
when this horse appears.

A Motel's attempt to settle the debate I guess.

Maybe a Little Trite . . .

but it's still the little things that count.

After returning home
from an out of state funeral,
The RG went outside for a walk around.
Then I found this rose on my desk.
He's the best.

Thankful for the Support of Family and Friends . . .

as we mourned the loss of my brother

We returned from Maryland on Tuesday.
The four hour trip on Sunday was torrential rain all the way.
The service and time with his family were a blessing.
The trip home was comforting.

As the fog lifted
we had the hope of a brighter tomorrow when we headed home after several days of rain and tears.
With a reminder of 9/11 along the way.
And moments of joy still exist. It would take a lot to beat this welcome home from Lucy. She was yet another dog David made a fuss over when he visited 'back home'.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Next Door . . .

For Sale

Continued Fascination . . .

I continue to be fascinated
and finding beauty in theses leaves.

Fortunately the beetle damage
only struck a small portion of this tree.

The Japanese Beetles were quite active
here in Western PA this year.
Our Apple Trees and Japanese Maple
suffered the most.

What trees do Japanese beetles attack?
Most favored by adult Japanese beetles and more susceptible to destruction.
  • American linden.
  • Apple.
  • Apricot, cherry, peach, and plum.
  • Birch.
  • Crab apple.
  • Crape myrtle.
  • Japanese maple.
  • Norway maple.

Do Chipmunks Eat . . .

Frogs?

The RG had mentioned
seeing three frogs in the garden pond
So one morning I headed out
with my camera for a count.

#1 - a usual place to spy one

#2 - sunning on a lily pad

#3 - cooling below the surface (eyes in the center of the photo)

But wait - there was one more.
#4 out of hiding in the rocks (suddenly gave a panicked yelp and leaped into the water.
The Reason for the panic
New knowledge to me
Chipmunks eat frogs.
Chipmunks have an omnivorous diet primarily consisting of seeds, nuts and other fruits, and buds. They also commonly eat grass, shoots, and many other forms of plant matter, as well as fungi, insects and other arthropods, small frogs, worms, and bird eggs.
