Thanksgiving Greetings . . .

from Lucy

Among our many reasons
to be thankful
is our faithful friend Lucy.
She teaches us unconditional
love and patience everyday.
And her antics bring smiles and laughter.

It's a joy to share her with other blogs from time to time and to be blessed by the posts of others.

Thanksgiving Musing

They came from afar . . .

to lend a hand

Thankful for utility workers
who came from out of the area
to lend a hand despite the dreadful weather

Seeking Refuge in . . .

the Midst of the ice storm.

A Mourning Dove seeking refuge
behind the icicles

A Woodpecker or Sapsucker
braving the icy drips

I find conflicting identification for this one???

Black and White . . .

Nature's contrast

A New Reason to . . .

appreciate snow by the buckets.

Anyone out there who has a septic system
will understand my title today.

We were without power from Thursday
evening through Sunday midday
due to trees and lines down
following freezing rain and heavy snow.
When that happens, two of
the biggest challenges
are no heat and no water.

The RG being the resourceful guy he is,
collected melting snow
from the roof into buckets
for flushing the facilities.

Sad to say we had some tree damage
Magnolia
Sweet Gum
and Fringe Tree

This one made a loud noise when it came down
 fortunately missing the roof.
Thankfully
The wood burner in the family room
kept us warm and kept the temps
in the rest of the house bearable.

As news came in that we were in for a long haul, a generator seemed like a good idea.
So we borrowed one of those and saved the refrigerated and frozen foods.

That was the longest we have ever experienced without power and I hope the last.
(about 30,000 without power in our county
and 10,000 still out as of this morning)

In the end we really can't complain and continue to pray for others who have and are experiencing much more dire straits and loss of life.

The Celebration of Veterans Day . . .

Continues

As we continue to celebrate and thank all Veteran's for their service.

This verse was on our fridge from day one to day seven thousand+ (20 yr) while our son lived his desire to experience a little something beyond his good ole hometown

We didn't get many letters but every once in a while a photo we would never forget. Like the Steeler's 'terrible towel' that one of the pilots flew over the Middle East at his request.

Thank to all Vets who gave a portion
of their life in the military service.

Commandeered Camera . . .

and a few of my own.

The RG took this.
Would it be considered a 'selfie' ?

And a geranium he saved
before the frost.

Haven't been seeing the Mourning Doves lately.
This beauty stopped by this week.

Frost if fun to foto.

And this morning's surprise!

The Term Fall Splendor . . .

comes to mind.
My oh so favorite
Japanese Maple
This 'fall' occurred
in one hour's time
after this morning's frost.

This is the true color of these leaves in fall
(no editing)
after being a deep burgundy all summer.

a little brighter sunlight on this one.

The RG planted this tree
thirty years ago when
I was in cardiac care.

I am thankful for all the seasons of life
I have been blessed with since then.
