Why was I spared? --- George H W Bush

A question he asked after surviving his bomber going down and losing his two crew mates.

Not about politics; not about fame; not about wealth. While all those things factored into his life, they were not the foundation of the man.

The RG and I laughed and cried at some point in each of the eulogies for a man who understood unconditional love.

I encourage our children, our family and our friends to take time to listen to at least one of the eulogies. (I recommend all of them)

I also recommend listening to the homily 

by his pastor

more laughter; more tears.

Anyone out there who has a septic system

will understand my title today.

We were without power from Thursday

evening through Sunday midday 

due to trees and lines down 

following freezing rain and heavy snow.

When that happens, two of 

the biggest challenges 

are no heat and no water.

The RG being the resourceful guy he is, 

collected melting snow 

from the roof into buckets

for flushing the facilities.

 Sad to say we had some tree damage

This one made a loud noise when it came down

 fortunately missing the roof.

Thankfully
The wood burner in the family room 

kept us warm and kept the temps 

in the rest of the house bearable.

As news came in that we were in for a long haul, a generator seemed like a good idea. 

So we borrowed one of those and saved the refrigerated and frozen foods.

That was the longest we have ever experienced without power and I hope the last.

(about 30,000 without power in our county

and 10,000 still out as of this morning)

In the end we really can't complain and continue to pray for others who have and are experiencing much more dire straits and loss of life.

The Celebration of Veterans Day . . .

Continues

As we continue to celebrate and thank all Veteran's for their service.

This verse was on our fridge from day one to day seven thousand+ (20 yr) while our son lived his desire to experience a little something beyond his good ole hometown 

We didn't get many letters but every once in a while a photo we would never forget. Like the Steeler's 'terrible towel' that one of the pilots flew over the Middle East at his request.

Thank to all Vets who gave a portion

of their life in the military service.

after this morning's frost.
