Spring Struggles to Appear

Joining OUTDOOR Wednesday

I heard a rumor that it was Spring
But no evidence to be found.
I checked the calendar
and sure enough the first day of Spring had come and gone.
Well at least I had some reminders around the house
lest I should forget what Spring was all about

There was a lovely Lily

And the late afternoon light reflecting on these pieces
was encouraging with a promise of warm temps
And I was sure I had heard ducks and geese
but it couldn't have been these.
So I ventured outside and this wreath was lovely
but the ground was white.

And the . . . this week the temps rose above 40
and hope returned when I spied this brave soul

and these daffodils ready to burst forth

even a few tiny hyacinths were getting brave
on the south side of our home

I guess the calendar was right after all.

Sadie Visits Blue Monday

Blue Monday Instructions Joining Sally for Blue Monday.

For Blue Monday I chose to share some "Blue" from my 'little room'. The term 'little room' comes from special family members who used it for the all purpose rooms in their homes.
I have a passion for Family Research and one of my branches is of Dutch origin. Thus the combination of blue and windmills in this corner of atMuldoon.
The little lady on the left was a gift from my Grandmother on my 12th Birthday.
The postcard, salt & pepper shakers and gal in the back are thrifting finds. Oh and also the silver spoon which I see needs a little polishing.

More thrift finds. The paddles turn freely on the little windmill in the center

Not sure if this happy couple are Dutch. They may be Eastern European but they are welcome in our family melting pot.

This picture with the windmill brings me serenity
as  I envision a quiet misty morning at the harbor.
My mom was a quilter while I prefer to do the piecing
and was always happy to finish the project for me.
And meet Sadie who is floating in front of the toile valance that also depicts windmills.
Sadie doesn't always reside here. She is a decoy which several years ago began appearing in strange and unusual places around our lawn and home.
The RG (retired gardener) and I were playing this little game long before the 'elf on the shelf'
appeared on the scene :).

Thanks for stopping by. If anyone is also interested in family research, I recently started a new blog where I share my experiences and reflections on my family research journey. https://familyresearchandme.blogspot.com

from my office window

breathing and just being . . .enchanted peace

from my soul

Daily Patriotic Reminders Here and There

As I was contemplating my Veteran's Day Post Veteran's Day 2014 it occurred to me that daily patriotic reminders abound atMuldoon
thanks to the retired Vet who lives here.
Way up high
and Way down low at Lucy's eye level
Even everyday essentials

Clutter Alert: The following pics are in the RG's domain over which I have very little say so ; )

I guess his theme on this beam is 'trains, planes & automobiles'.
Stored decos for American holidays.

And things that simply bloom where they're planted.

Does he use this for paying his taxes?

It doesn't spin stuck up there.
Maybe it reminds him of summer breezes.

O.K. so this tote landed here by my own doing but it won't be hard to find when I want it.

Yep, daily reminders of our freedom are a good thing.

Veteran's Day 2014

“On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free.”
—Dan Lipinski

Today I honor my husband and his service in the
U.S. Army - 1968-1971.

Saturday Scenery

Leaf mulching was on the agenda but I couldn't bring myself to disrupt the beauty of the scene outside the kitchen window.

There will be another day or nature will take care of them; whichever comes first.

...simplicity is not about being deprived. It is about discovering what is "enough in your life" -- based upon your lifestyle, values, and following the call of your soul -- and discarding the rest.

Christmas Morning Sunrise

From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised.
---Psalm 113:3

That verse sums up Christmas 2013 for me.
Preparations and activities just seemed to fall in place one by one this year and I was able to enjoy every minute.

Hoping each of you were also blessed and that we may all carry the joy into the new year.

Thanksgiving atMuldoon 2013

Thanksgiving atMuldoon was a simple affair this year; just the head turkey and myself for the meal.

But that didn't seem any reason for not enjoying the traditional fare.
Up early and lining up the needed items for our 'semi-homemade' Thanksgiving Dinner

While I was spreading flour everywhere, the RG (retired gardener) was making sure our feathered friends had their feast as well.
(and yes, he does befriend the occasional chickadee from time to time)

This was a super simple fruit cobbler recipe just begging for whipped cream on top.
But now why don't I have four of those molds. The remainder was baked in a small pie plate.

This was fun.
When I was growing up my Mother would spread the piecrust trimmings with butter and sprinkle with brown sugar.
I took it a step further and went for fall leaves and acorns using colored sugar and cinnamon/sugar.
This is one of a pair of depression glass plates that belonged to my Grandmother and I remember her using them on Thanksgiving.

and of course there was the traditional turkey nicely browned and seasoned; and pumpkin pie.
Wouldn't you think I would have taken a photo of that too?

And then came the surprise, our oldest son decided to visit with our four grandchildren; giving his wife a break from the chaos while she prepared their Thanksgiving Dinner to be shared with another family later in the day.
Nice surprise and made our day.
The day was completed by the rest of our family through Skyping, Texting, Calls from Tennessee and California; and of course Facebook with other friends and family.

We are blessed.

Furniture Favorites

Two of my favorite furniture pieces belonged to my grandmothers.

This one was a birthday gift to my maternal grandmother on her 12th birthday in 1910.

This was a piece in a dining set which my father bought for his mother as a young man.

 Comforting memories.

Lessons from Lucy

Sharing with ...

Lucy has so much to teach me if I will take the time to observe and apply.

Today she reminded me of her Patience and Trust
Patience emphasizes calmness, self-control, and the willingness or ability to tolerate delay

She's there when we leave:

She's there while we're gone:

She trusts we will return:

Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

Thanks Lucy, I needed that.

Two+ years---really?

Two+ years have gone by since I posted---really??? Too much work and all that .....
So I have resolved to bring some the fun back into my life.

It's great to see so many of your posts again and all the new pages too!

As far a posting; I'm lost and need to study the tutorials.

Not the most exciting post but let's see if I can at least get it uploaded.

Take Care
