We were without power from Thursday
evening through Sunday midday
due to trees and lines down
following freezing rain and heavy snow.
When that happens, two of
the biggest challenges
are no heat and no water.
The RG being the resourceful guy he is,
collected melting snow
from the roof into buckets
for flushing the facilities.
Sad to say we had some tree damage
Magnolia
Sweet Gum
and Fringe Tree
This one made a loud noise when it came down
fortunately missing the roof.
Thankfully
The wood burner in the family room
The wood burner in the family room
kept us warm and kept the temps
in the rest of the house bearable.
As news came in that we were in for a long haul, a generator seemed like a good idea.
So we borrowed one of those and saved the refrigerated and frozen foods.
That was the longest we have ever experienced without power and I hope the last.
(about 30,000 without power in our county
and 10,000 still out as of this morning)
In the end we really can't complain and continue to pray for others who have and are experiencing much more dire straits and loss of life.

...looks like you had more damage than we did. Too much of a good thing isn't always good! Thanks Gayle for stopping by. Happy Thanksgiving to you.
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea for flushing with snow melt and it is beautiful to see but not to be in. glad you got a generator and had heat. Ginny of Let your light shine, lives in VA, not sure where you are, but she was without power and heat and lost fridge and freezer foods. this ice storm is scary to me since I have never been in one. glad you are safe and blogging
ReplyDeleteI checked your profile and see western PA which is where my hubby is from. now I know. hope Lucy faired well in the ice and snow and had a safe place to potty
ReplyDeleteThe tree damage is sad.I have been through a storm or two like that. It's a challenge to keep things going, but it does work.
ReplyDeleteOh, it has snowed so much already! It looks magical!
ReplyDeleteMy dad always kept a few large containers of water, around five litres each, in the basement in case of power outages like that.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful snow, but I'm biased towards snow.
