Brisk October Afternoon . . .

with a new found friend

Great Blue Heron
It flew in closer
and with a watchful eye.

circled around me,

took flight

landed once again
 and found this mangled catfish
which it quickly discarded.

This Yellow Leg was in the same area
and quite interested
in an abandoned bobber.

Preston Digression 051116

For today's post I am digressing from Preston Park
to share a photo that I look at with wonderment
every time I bring it up.
The first time I viewed it on my camera
I thought it was double exposure or something.
Now that I know it's for real, I guess birds are into tattoos too.
Maybe its not that unusual of a feather pattern,
but it was a first for me!

It was a heron kind of day.
I could watch them for hours.

Yesterday's moment of joy was the capturing a Baltimore Oriole.
We've been hearing them a few days
but they tend to stay away from the house until . . .

and then at the state park today . . .
my first Pileated Woodpecker
a bit hidden by the foliage but it's that time of year.

Trolling Along the Lake Shore

Me with my camera.
The RG with his fishing poll

Snapped this gull right after a pontoon went floating by
Guess the captain couldn't read.

Trolling along the shore; Peek a Boo

And then there were three.

Uh Oh company.

We'll be going now.

Moving down shore and heard rustling.

And to round out the evening

Fly on over and join Stewart

Saturday Birds

 Stopping by to say 'hello'
"good morning RG, how's the catching?"

"See ya later."

A better 'fishing spot' from across the lake?
"hey RG, you should try it from here"

And a quick 'fly by' from our pal the osprey.

Spied this young Catbird and surmised
it had taken a bath and was
'fluffing' in the sun to dry.
