When Least Expected

Been trying to catch a hawk in the wild for months.
Looked out the kitchen window and there it was
enjoying a breakfast entree.

Backyard Birds 101715 and State Park (updated)

The Robins are back out of hiding
to feast on the dogwood berries.

Then a flock of Cedar Waxwings
came along to duke it out with the Robins

On the other side of the house the new feeder has been found.

This silly Woodpecker spent more time
trying to ward off the Chick a Dees and Titmouse
than it did eating.

What a ruckus!

Last week I had the closest encounter
with  my pal the Osprey
of the whole summer.

Flocks

Canada Geese
A sign of things to come (or going)?
Looks like a 'V' to me.
It won't be long now.

And on the west side of the bridge
this pretty flock of Cedar Waxwings soaking up the evening sun.

In motion,

and at rest.

Trolling Along the Lake Shore

Me with my camera.
The RG with his fishing poll

Snapped this gull right after a pontoon went floating by
Guess the captain couldn't read.

Trolling along the shore; Peek a Boo

And then there were three.

Uh Oh company.

We'll be going now.

Moving down shore and heard rustling.

And to round out the evening

Wednesday Links 072915

Watched it ripen from my swing.

Just can't beat a fresh home ripened Tomato

As I drove to work and saw these hay bales I was reminded of
the snow donut phenomena which was new to our area last winter.

It took the tiger lilies to bring in the hummingbirds this year

This one reminds me of the stance of Mighty Mouse
from the old Saturday morning cartoon.

Spied Him

Have been hearing a Mockingbird everyday
outside the business where I work.

Finally spied him
on the tippy top of an electric utility pole.

Singing his heart out.

The Week of the Turkey Vulture

Lucy and I took a jaunt to the lake in the hope of seeing 'our pal'  the osprey and we weren't disappointed.

On our usual country road return we experienced our second vulture encounter of the week

The Loretta Young Show
(some may need to dig deep to remember Loretta and her mink coat)
And then the fashion runway display began

Then she tried to lead me away from her feast.

Wishing Canadian Bloggers Happy Canada Day!

What better way to send wishes than sharing photos from your beautiful country, Canada.

The RG loves Lake Simcoe for ice fishing
and follows a message board from there year round.

These are from a fall vacation to Lake Simcoe a few years ago.

Our guys coming in with a good catch.
This is where we stayed, the Eagle's Nest.
I guess these would be called 'free range' bunnies

They were everywhere on the grounds around the cottages.

A fun stop while sight seeing.
Not sure why it says Maine????
More sight seeing.

 What a beautiful lake
I guess I was birding even then.
