A Touch of Red 26 June 2016

A touch of summer red here and there atMuldoon.

This Cardinal was singing his heart out when I spied him atop the weather vane. And the Ruby Throat-ed Hummingbird has been stopping by every evening of late.

A Favorite Majolica Treasure 010416

Judith has shared some lovely flattop still lifes
which I really liked. So I thought I would give it try.
I was also inspired by some other still lifes
shared by Teresa of Eden Hills recently as well.

This is a favorite treasure of mine
It was probably a bridal shower gift in 1947 which my mother always referred to as a 'mayonaise jar'. It wasn't used though and occupied a spot in a knick knack shadow box in our home.
A more refined title might be a covered majolica pottery jar to be used for salad dressing.

It is a piece of 'occupied Japan' pottery
My research found that majolica often has a lead glaze
so it's probably a good thing it wasn't used.

Blue Mosaic Outdoors

The RG took these photos in 2013
when he joined one of our sons in Hawaii.
It was to be our son's last long deployment of his
Navy Air Wing career and he gifted his Dad passage with him from Honolulu to SanDiego on what is called a Tiger Cruise.

They were blessed to have time before the cruise to tour the islands.
The RG had only been in the airport enroute to Viet Nam 45 years before. And his father had been stationed there during WWII
so it was very special for him in many ways.

Isn't the sky pretty in the last photo?
(or maybe I chose it for the special fella gazing across the beach ;)
He is back to civilian life after serving
for twenty years and now enjoying daily life with his wife and son.

We are so thankful as a family for the memory this will always be.

Happy USA Thanksgiving to everyone stopping by.
And Happy Day to all.

Butterfly in November

I was surprised to see this butterfly mid November in western Pennsylania. But then again I was surprised to see our rhododendron in full bloom too.

We were hiking through a cemetery on family research when the RG spotted it sunning away.

Mosaic Monday 110215

Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor,
summer an oil painting
and autumn a mosaic of them all.
