Seized by a Crafty Moment

I had the frame.

I had the fabric.

I had the cork.

I had the time.

I'm pleased with the result.

Along a country road.

This jug is every bit as big as it appears.
It sits at the end of the lane to a popular truck farm.

We pass this sign often and I always chuckle.
I mean, I'm sorry for their loss but find it amusing.
It's been there quite awhile
so I'm  pretty sure no one has turned themselves in.

Backyard Birds 121615

The December/January issue of Bird & Blooms had an article on identifying  Hairy and Downy Woodpeckers. The difference is primarily in their sizes with some subtle differences in plumage. And each has a unique call.

We got a chance atMuldoon to test our skill.

Ms. Hairy here was feasting away
When what to her wondering eyes should appear?
But Mr. Downy higher up in the tree.
Mr. Downy was polite and took his place in line
(note the difference in size)

Here he seems to be wondering just how long she is going to take.

Finally his turn arrives.

And he seems to be hoping she doesn't come back for dessert.

Later that day Mr. Hairy (larger of the two)
 arrived for his afternoon feast.

Which went without incident.

Mr. and Ms. Hairy have longer stronger beaks
Mr. Downy's is stubby.

Mr. and Ms. Hairy are about nine inches from the tip of their bills to the tip of their tails.
Mr. Downy is only about six and a half inches.

Christmas Reflections Inside and Out 12 2015

Holiday Reflections atMuldoon

Outdoors for Outdoor Wednesday

The mild temps continue
which is beginning to concern the RG

and there are the lighted deer reflected in the front window.

This one is reflected in the window of my car.

Indoors for Mosaic Monday

Our Christmas Tree is reflected in a mirror
joined by the palm tree which is now lit for the holidays.

Last year we just used the top two sections of our 9ft. tree
It is now the perfect size for the two of us
so we went that route again this year.
The container is a fairly old ceramic planter
that belonged to my aunt.
It works perfectly and brings back many happy childhood memories.

A frosty morning stroll atMuldoon

Once it begins to snow for sure and for certain
my fascination with the frost will probably wane.
But in the meantime it was refreshing.

A small unassuming Greek Orthodox Church
at a busy intersection.
This day was the funeral of a dedicated Korean War Veteran, known worldwide, who continued to serve all Veterans

This well kept farm has appeared before
The first time was a view from the northwest.

This time from an intersecting road
revealing the southeast side.
I especially like the solo tree.

A Dusting

A Dusting of Snow
the hint of a White Christmas?

Ice on pine needles--
can it hear the Christmas bells?
Can anything not?

Backyard Birds 120215

On Saturday Critters I mentioned the winter crowd was beginning  with the arrival of the woodpeckers and house finches.

The rest of the crowd is making its appearance too.

'Tis the Season for Red

My approach to Christmas decorating this year
is to grab a thing or two on each trip up from the basement
and plunk it down somewhere.

I sat this sleigh down and
'boom' - a photo op.
(that happens a lot anymore ;)
First the reflection
Then the morning sun spotlight

This one said 'trees and bushes'
The palm tree is indoors for the winter
and seemed a good place for a live poinsettia

Added a Poinsettia to the cactus clan in the kitchen
and once again it said 'trees and bushes'.
Love the reflection of the poinsettia in the window
along with the trees outside.

About this time of year the RG and I usually play a game of gin rummy at this spot in the evening.
