Chase the Blah with Blue

The front porch of our little white ranch atMuldoon was looking a little blah lately. So I pulled a remnant out of storage and made a blue floral cushion for the bench and an accent for the chair.

 

Added my little blue shutter with a wooden shoe;

some blue flowers and chased the blah away.

Wooden Shoe - Redo

The inspiration for my wooden shoe redo came from Jeanie on her blog, The Marmelade Gypsy
One of Jeanie's photos featured a door with a wooden shoe which appealed to my 'Dutch' side. And then low and behold didn't I spy a small wooden shoe on our first trip to the flea market this season. It is just the right size for a the small shutter I've had laying around for quite sometime.

I completely forgot to take a before photo, tsk.

I'm pretty sure it's not done.

 but I caught the house wrens in the act of removing pieces of my spring wreath for nesting; so that had to come down.

I'm not satisfied with the flowers just stuffed in the shoe and Sophie's clip (aka feet) need camouflaged.

Question: The wooden shoe has a small hole on only one side). I noticed the one on Jeanie's post does too. Is there a purpose for this?

This was a thrifty find in June 2011

I left it as was at the time.

The weather had taken its toll

All faded and part of the bottom is gone.

I first sprayed with flat black.

Since I haven't done something like this in a long time 

most of my supplies are gone.

So I got creative and used metallic magic markers
and pastel pencils.

Then sprayed with semi-gloss urethane.

Not sure how it will hold up

but I'm pleased with the result.

The Fence Remained

As I drove up Muldoon after a storm,

I said 'oh no'.

Say it isn't so. 

But it was so. 

The RG began the clean-up shortly thereafter. 

He also determined that #2 was unstable as well.

 

Sad to see two tall soldiers go but never the less;

The Fence atMuldoon Remained.

A Scrolled Bench Morphs

Joining in with Metamorphisis Monday. Let's have a seat out here and let me tell you about that plant stand you see on the end of the porch.


Last May I was blessed to discover this wonderful world of Blogs. Prior to that my idea of a blog was a tell all; pour out your thoughts; generally depressing concept. How very mistaken I was! That discovery set off a long dormant love for thrifting. And the rest is history.

This beautful white bench, a beauty in its own right was one of my revival finds at GW.

I had breezed in for a quick go around, found several nifty little items and was on my way to the check out when I made that glance to the right that so many of you will relate to, and there it was.
Then I got home and found this tag hanging from a leg. It's a little blurry and reads $55.00. Must have been left over from someone else's sale minus the cushions. A spray can of paint and it morphed into this lovely plant bench. Don't you love how the 'S' moldings match the scrolls on our porch supports and the black shutters? So that's one of the many morphs at Muldoon. Thanks for stopping by. I'm so glad you did. With the cooler temps it was nice to enjoy this brief respite with you.

More Tell than Show?

Joining Cindy for Show and Tell Friday.

Glimpses of this oak dining chair seem to make their way into several of my photos so I decided today it should be in the spotlight. It was the arm chair with a dining room set my Dad bought for his mother in the 1940s before he was married. He bought the set second hand so I have no idea its real age.


Sidenote: I love all the painted furniture I see on the blogs but most of the time the beauty of the wood grain wins out for my redos. Something to do with my grandfather's woodworking hobby I think. But I digress.

My mother always said she lived in 5 homes and never changed her address. That was because my Dad was constantly moving walls and changing the lay-out of their house. Somehow as a result of a re-do on the second floor this chair ended up out under the eaves and the cubby hole door he built wouldn't accomodate its return to civilization. So the story went as I was growing up---'that chair is stuck out there'.

When the task of clearing out my parents home came upon me, my cousin and partner in crime during our youth came to my rescue. And when I told her about the chair she replied 'That Chair IS Coming Out of There. Get the tools!' So after removing the cubby hole frame and 'enlarging' the opening just a bit ;/ (not to mention my cousin risking life and limb) out she came.

Notice how the arm is set back to accomodate pulling in close to the table. And here she is refinished and nesting at Muldoon. So that's her story and I often wonder what the new owners of the house thought when they went into the back of a particular closet. 'Search me how that happened.' : ).

What A Difference an Afternoon makes...

The weather was iffy and we were so so about going to the flea market today but decided to chance it anyway. Well....you can guess the rest of the story---a great find.


Have you seen the Ikea ad where the lady tells her huband 'get the car; get the car' because she thinks they charged her the wrong LOW prices? Well, I asked the price and when she said $2, I paid and turned to my resident Pescator and said 'just take it and go; just take it and go' HAHA





The original plan was to paint it for on the porch but the Pescator said maybe not.And what to my wondering eyes did appear? ---solid unblemished walnut
What a beauty for by the door to replace the t.v. tray he now leaves his keys, official pescator certificate (aka fishing license :), etc. on

Oh well, there's always next week for that empty spot on the porch : ).
