Archive Blues

Sharing archived photos on some Link Ups. They are from an excursion to Put-In-Bay, Ohio a few years ago.

"Stonehenge" said Blue Monday to me.
A mid-nineteenth century island house built circa 1855 for the Foster family. This dolomite and grout house is a rare stone version of the island's familiar L-shaped farm houses.
Lots of blue from beginning to end.
Do you spy the wringer washer?
With blue being the predominant color,
our friend, Norma fit right in.
Also notice our friend John's earphones for taking a taped tour.
It wasn't near Christmas but the tree was a nice touch.
It would have been 'grand' to play this piano.
As a girl, I would have loved this room.
 Even a heated attic bath.
Viewing these photos makes me want to go back.
There is so much to do and see.
A Fall tour would be nice.

Collecting from a Man's point of view

Time for Vintage Thingy Thursday with Suzanne.

If you like a lodge feel you will love my RP's (resident pescator aka resident retired gardner ) decor in our family room. This is just one corner. The whole room reflects the nature in our area. (the piece of driftwood in the corner reminds us of a great blue heron)

These are few of his antique lures and the wooden pieces were made by my grandfather. And here is a row of collectable reels. The wooden boxes at the bottom were handmade by another fisherman to hold his reels and his brother passed them onto the RP.

Here is an old bait bucket and a couple vintage fishing licenses
More lures.
A vintage tackle box.
and a collectable wooden bobber.
Note the theme lampshade and the boat says Jet Craft and has a patent#. It originally would have had a motor attached at the back powered by baking soda.
And the most vintage of all; the RP himself about 30 years ago. His passion is still ice fishing. And yes I sometimes go along. His mustache is a slightly different color in my profile picture : ).
If you enjoyed these pictures half as much as he loves the sport, my goal was met.

EDITED to say: The round things on top of the wooden boxes are dried chestnuts from that place where Suzanne says there are bears---Yellowstone.
Be sure to visit Suzanne for other great Vintage Thingies

A work at home day

With the office closed and the holiday over today became a work at home day. Planning for a baby shower in a few weeks prompted the notion that cleaning the carpet was in order. It was probably in order anyway but having a reason to motivate me is always helpful. Well, if you're going to clean you might as well re-arrange right? So.....
I moved the computer desk and eliminated a floor lamp. Then I added this table lamp that I got at an auction several years ago. The shade is from Lowe's and I just love it.Moving to the other side I place a tapesty box in which to tuck my camera and wires away and another small dish that now holds flash memory sticks. Now I have a question? Where do they come from????? They were not there two days ago! Well there is that family reunion coming up and I will need to take a casserole...

Happy Birthday U. S. A.

For this post, the only thing vintage are the two people who live here : ). Welcome to our red, white n blue front porch.

If we aren't home go ahead and have a seat; relax and sit a spell. Take a deep breath and savor the scent of the 'Veteran's Honor Rose' on this Fourth of July week-end.
Thank you to all Veteran's who have served and especially our active military today. (thank you Son). Glimpsing through the morning glories

and thankful for our liberty.

Glad you could stop by. Have a safe and sound 4th of July.

Welcome. Today I am joining Cindy at Romantic Homes http://romantichome.blogspot.com/ for Show n Tell and I have chosen to share a corner of my kitchen. As you step through the doorway you may notice a few things change before your eyes but isn't that what home decorating is all about?

My Mom loved to quilt and I am blessed to have several of her creations to call my own. And yes, we use them. She wouldn't have it any other way. The one in the first picture includes embroidered squares done by my great grandmother which were tucked away in a drawer for many years until my Mom decided to place them in this quilt.
This one is a quilted tablecloth and I love the colors she chose.
I refinished the sewing cabinet which was given to me a few years ago. The back ledge lifts up for storage. The needlepoint cardinal on the wall was stitched by my grandmother and the chair belonged to my uncle. It always sat at the large oak desk I'm sitting at right now. (but the story of that piece will be for another day)

These lovely doilies were each crocheted by my mother, an aunt, or myself and the small table cloth was a bridal shower gift to my mother in 1947. I like having them out here to remind me of each of them.
And finally this friendly little hen was a thrift store find of mine. And oh yes, the wooden cakestand in the center was handmade by my grandfather in his workshop.

Thank you for stopping by and I can't wait to see what each of you has to share as well.

Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunnyside of life. And everybody deserves a little sunshine
---Jeffrey Glassberg

Being tired of the beach theme this spring it all started with this shower curtain and it's brightly colored butterflies.
Next came this dainty little wreath with yet another butterfly. And then browsing around the craft store I spied these airy butterflies on thin wiresand suddenly they were landing
everywhere
A few even fluttered across the miles to my office

Have you found your butterfly today?
