Signs, Signs - 031616

A few signs from here and there.

Every few cents off helps.

Wonder what the recipe is? ;)

Clever - I'm just afraid if I ever go in they won't let me out.

Since reading the sign the RG is in search of

this particular potato to grow.

Wild Bird Wednesday 031616

Canada Geese in Western PA.

Canada geese have proven able to establish breeding colonies in urban and cultivated areas, which provide food and few natural predators, and are well known as a common park species.

Recycling is a Good Thing 031516

This is a still life I put together a several months ago

I thought it fit here as well since it is

a collection of the RG's angling treasures.

We recently watched a program about glass harmonicas. I had never heard of them and was surprised they pre-date pianos.

Benjamin Franklin was the inventor (PBS link). Leave it to Ben.

Maple Syrup Time 030916

And the Tapping begins.

With an abundance of maple trees in western PA.

tapping them for syrup is a common site.

And festivals pop up throughout the area.

I took these photos near Pymatuning State Park;

and believe it is a commercial endeavor.

Birds on Ice 030916

Gulls and Canada Geese at our lakes

are as common as Robins and Sparrows in the backyard.

But their antics on the ice at Pymatuning State Park

this past Sunday was something to behold.

I was especially taken by them ice skating.

Winter Tree Beauty 030816

Spied these white birch on our Sunday drive

to Pymatuning State Park.

Really like the contrast of the birch against the evergreens.

This one is below the dam and somewhat submerged due to the lake being drained down for major work at the breastworks.

Treasured Buck Saw 030816

Just the act of taking the photos of this buck saw brought back memories of following my maternal grandfather here and there; watching his many activities.

He worked a 3 to 11 shift which meant he was home during the day working in his gardens or carpenter shop.

I included the following close-ups to show the varied coloring of the wood and the principle of how it worked.

A bucksaw is a crosscut saw: it is designed to cut across the grain. The width of the blade is constant from the teeth to the back. It is meant to cut wood fibers that are in tension, and is thick so that it is more difficult to bend on the push stroke. Coopers often use bucksaws in their work.

Remembering Sally, Blue Monday 030716

It's Monday and in planning my day, Sally's "Blue Monday" meme came to mind. In reflecting on her gracious comments to my posts over time, this scripture came to mind. I have a heart feeling that she applied it to all she met.

Hebrews 13:1-2   Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. 2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

She also came immediately to my mind yesterday when we passed this 'blue' barn. I'm sure it won't be the last time something brings this lovely lady to my thoughts; and that's a good thing.

For you Sally
