The bird is also known as the American mourning dove or the rain dove, and erroneously as the turtle dove, and was once known as the Carolina pigeon or Carolina turtledove.   1. mourning doves are so sweet and a tad dumb, but i do love them. they sit on the ground and don't even move when a dog comes out.. or in the middle of the street when a car comes. their sound is music to my ears
